Welcome to Gary Art Works

Housed in the former Naval Reserve Station on the beach in the Miller section of Gary, Gary Art Works’ programming was launched on June 18, 2001.

Modeled after the award winning Gallery 37, a City of Chicago youth employment program founded in 1991, Gary Art Works is a community-based nonprofit organization, whose mission is focused on education, access to arts and cultural activities and public engagement in the arts as an effective catalyst for community development.

Our education initiatives employ professional artists and arts educators to instruct and mentor youth in a variety of programs. We cultivate community partnerships to facilitate access to arts and cultural activities throughout the community and employ social enterprise strategies to help sustain our organization and contribute to the economic and social well being of the community.
